The Terminator is a science fiction movie released on October 26th, 1984, and was directed by James Cameron. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, an assassin cyborg sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Connor's son is destined to become a savior against machines in a post-apocalyptic future.

However, from the same war-torn post-apocalyptic future comes a battle-scarred defender names, Kyle Reese. Played by Michael Biehn, Reese is a brave soldier of the human Resistance Army bent on stopping the cybernetic killer from eliminating the world's last hope. But, the Terminator has no feelings, he doesn't sleep, and above all, he won't stop until he carries out his grim task. Does our future lie in our past?

The Terminator topped the United States box office for two weeks and helped launch Cameron's film career and solidify Schwarzenegger's status as a leading man. Its success led to a franchise consisting of several sequels, a television series, comic books, novels, and video games. In 2008, The Terminator was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
